A Little Poppy Inspiration

Crochet for Remembrance

11/1/20262 min read

November brings us all an opportunity to get cosy and make something meaningful with our crochet hooks.

In the last few weeks I've been experimenting with texture stitch combinations and have been developing a simple crochet poppy motif.

I have played with yarn weight and hook sizes to create slight variations to the same motif. The results have been fun and have given me lots of ideas to consider. I mean a simple pin will make it an easy wearable on a scarf or hat. Or a cluster will give anything a 'remake' or cover a mend to jumpers, scarves and bags. I love flowers and poppies are such happy flowers to look at especially in contrast to the lovely mustard yarn in the baby's hat.

The beauty of a small motif is its versatility. You can use individual poppies to decorate hats, bags, scarves, blankets or other handmade projects. A simple change of colour or placement can give each creation its own personality.

Make Your Own Poppy

I've included my crochet chart to help you create your own poppy motifs. It's a lovely little project for using up leftover yarn and adding a seasonal touch to something you've already made.

You don't have to make a hat either. A single poppy can make a lovely embellishment, or why not create several to use together?

So grab a little red, a little black and your favourite hook, and see where your creativity takes you. I used Patons Fab DK yarn with a 4mm hook. I followed the chart with the black and red yarn. Using single crochets (sc) and double crochet (dk) USA terms.

A happy 1st of the month, add yippee its newsletter time! So look out for it in your inbox!
