🍂 INSPIRED BY NATURE: LET COLOUR LEAD THE WAY 🍂

Have you ever looked at the colours in your garden and wondered how you could bring them into your next creative project? 🌿

Lately, I’ve been looking at the changing leaves, the earthy browns, fiery rusts, golden yellows and those unexpected flashes of green. Nature doesn’t worry about whether everything matches perfectly. Somehow, it just works! 🍁

I’ve been playing with these colours in my crochet flower motifs, and here’s something I’ve learned over the years: you don’t always need a strict colour plan. Sometimes, you just need a few simple rules of your own. 🧶

🎨 My little colour experiments

🍂 Work in batches. Choose a handful of colours inspired by something you love, then make a small batch of motifs in each shade. You don’t need to decide exactly where every colour will go just yet.

🌿 Avoid identical neighbours. Try not to place two motifs of the same colour directly beside one another. It encourages your eye to travel across the design and gives each colour its own moment.

✨ Leave room to breathe. Open spaces between motifs can be just as important as the colours themselves. Those little gaps create an airy feel and allow the individual flowers to stand out.

🌻 Mix things up randomly. Lay your motifs out, move them around, turn them in different directions and see what happens. If one area feels too heavy, introduce a lighter colour or move a darker motif elsewhere.

🍁 Break your own rules occasionally! Rules are there to help you explore, not restrict your creativity. Sometimes the unexpected combination is the one that makes the whole design sing.

My autumn palette has been inspired by the leaves changing around me, and I’m enjoying seeing how the same little flower can look completely different depending on the colours around it.

And that’s the beauty of handmade: no two arrangements need to be identical. You can create something entirely your own, one motif at a time. ❤️

Your turn! If you were choosing colours from nature, would you be inspired by autumn leaves, a summer garden, a beach at sunset or the colours of a woodland walk?

Tell me your favourite colour combinations by sending me a message here. I’d love to know what inspires your creativity! 🌿🧶 Jacqui
