I found a square with a soft teal center, just a few rounds... made perfectly. My mum had started it. Her stitches were always so steady, so sure. Everything she made was beautiful. Even this, what turned out to be her last project.
I had just enough yarn to finish it and even make a second square of my own.
That second one? Twisted. Wonky even. Not wrong, exactly...just off.
I wasn’t thinking straight. Grief had taken hold of me. My hands were trying to be brave before I was truly ready. The two squares sat patiently for me to return.
But now, looking at the two squares side by side, I saw something I could fix.
Not the feelings, but the form. The shape. The way the square held itself.
And that’s when I remembered the tip that always brings me back to balance mum had so many words of wisdom:
✨ Turn your work at the end of each round. ✨
Yep. Flip it. Crochet the next round in the opposite direction.

Can you spot the difference?
(Trust me—there is nothing worse than stepping back to admire your finished gift and realizing it’s twisted. Still beautiful, but... TWISTED.
And suddenly you're flashing back to those continuous rounds.
They had such a sweet rhythm. So relaxing.
Until they ambushed you with this tormenting situation—now you don’t want to block it, don’t want to join it, don’t even want to look at it straight.)
Your future self—and your joining rows—will absolutely thank you.
